Montana is home to the Red Lodge Mountain Ski Resort. It is found at the foot of the Beartooth Mountain Range, on the eastern side of Yellowstone National Park. Thousands come from across the country to enjoy its many runs, features and stunning scenery. It has the biggest snowmaking operation in the whole of the northern edge of the Rocky Mountains. Thus the resort is fast making a name for itself as the place that can and does have snow even when the snow fall has been minimal.
This history of the resort stems back to the pioneers and settlers. The original Silver Run Ski Club was established because of the incredible love and devotion of the locals to skiing and the pleasures of it. In fact, it was not long before the resort grew into what it is today. From its first lift at Grizzly Peak in 1960 to the spread of the word that the mining area had in fact a tourist attraction that could make millions, Red Lodge has been a development waiting to happen, and happen it did. By 1996, snowmaking became an art form at the resort and as a result profits have sky rocketed as Mother Nature is no longer an issue in the establishment of normal skiing seasons.
The mountains offer up to two and a half miles of runs with an average snow base of about two hundred and fifty inches. The season begins in December, running through to April. It has four levels of trails, 14% for beginners, 29% for intermediates, 34% for advanced and 23% for experts. There are eight lifts, including two fast quads, four double type chairs, one triple chair and one hand tow.
