Big Sky, Montana
Though always having roots as a small alpine village, Big Sky began to flourish as a world-wide destination beginning back in the early 1970's when former NBC news anchor and Montana native, Chet Huntley, initiated plans to build what is now todays Big Sky Resort, located just 1 hour south of Bozeman along Hwy. 191.
In winter, Big Sky is a downhill and cross country skier's paradise with 2 downhill resorts and the Lone Mountain Ranch cross-country ski center. Snowmobiling is also offered throughout the regional mountains, and is just 45 minutes to West Yellowstone to the south. In summer, fishing, rafting, horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking the mountain trails make the resort area an especially adventurous place. Big Sky is adjacent to Yellowstone National Park (just over 20 miles from the northwest corner) and offers some of the most beautiful scenery in Montana.
