Snow King Resort, just in Jackson Hole in Wyoming offers the ultimate alternative to hours and days of continuous skiing or snowboarding, the much loved snow tubing. This Yellowstone area wonder is also known as toobing and has become the favourite past time of many kids and adults for decades, allowing riders to experience flight, fast speeds and spins.
Tubing is not that different form tobogganing or sledding. It involves going down slopes or hills and uses natural gravity to take the rider and tube to the bottom. Riders always return to the top for another run again and again. As snow tubes are circular in shape, there is little the rider can do to control the direction, spin or speed of the tube. In fact, the only way to enforce breaking is to jump off. Unfortunately the control factor has resulted in injuries when trees were struck during tubing.
There is nothing technical about the equipment. A large inflatable inner tube usually comes from a large tire like that of a big heavy truck and is made of rubber and shaped like a donut. However, the tubes that are available at Snow King have dimpled centers versus the traditional donut centers. This adds an additional protection for riders and handles also make it easier.
