If you want to get away from it all, a winter trip into the Yellowstone backcountry is the way to do it. The remoteness and extreme weather in this climate keeps most people away, or at least confined to the roads in the Park. Travel by snowshoes, cross country skis, or telemark/AT gear is possible in most areas in the park. A winter foray into the remote areas of Yellowstone can be a truly rewarding experience. You can make arrangements with local outfitters to transport you to areas of the park, and pick you up when you return. Guides are also available, as well as a series of yurts in the west portion of Yellowstone National Park.
